Our team worked in support of several engineering teams and the product management team. I would frequently collaborate with the leads from those teams.
Project type:
Clickable prototype, exploring workflows for the Web Monitoring Client project as we were adapting to cloud based applications.
Overview:
Our team was tasked with the supporting development as we moved from localized application renders to cloud-based computing. The opportunity offered our engineers the chance to give our users more control and views during their render.
Challenge:
Users were reluctant to adopt cloud-based solution due to security concerns. We presented a solution to our engineering team to discuss feasibility and potential to improve our user-experience.
Approach:
Based on over-the-shoulder observations we noticed users rotating through screens to try and better monitor their calculations. Being able to see their render as their simulations ran as well as watching different calculations as they were plotted became an invaluable tool for them.
Outcomes:
• Our engineering team used this research to better understand our user's needs.
• While this project did was not specifically developed into its own application as we designed it, its concepts were incorporated into our Power On Cloud offering embedded in our java client.
